Sourdough Proofing Baskets
For supporting the dough during proofing and improving proofing readability
Brod & Taylor Proofing Baskets (Batards)
These are the batard proofing baskets I’m moving toward as a more consistent alternative to generic bannetons. The oval baskets linked below work well with the eight-hundred-gram doughs used across my sourdough recipes.
I already use and trust Brod & Taylor equipment in my own baking setup, including their Baking Shell and Baking Steel, and these baskets reflect the same focus on function and durability.
🇺🇸 Shop Brod & Taylor baskets (US)
Why I’m switching to these
- The basket’s profile encourages upward expansion rather than lateral spread, supporting better oven spring
- Lightweight and rigid, making them easy to handle and stack
- Designed to nest cleanly, saving counter and shelf space
- Easy to clean and quick to dry between uses
Note: These aren’t yet available in the EU, which is why they don’t appear in my existing videos. But based on their design, testing by members inside Sourdough Unchained, and my experience with Brod & Taylor equipment, these are the baskets I’ll switch to once they become available in Europe.
Amazon Proofing Baskets (Batards)
These are the style of proofing baskets I’ve used throughout my YouTube videos and earlier recipe releases. They’re traditional bannetons that support the dough during final proofing and work well with the dough sizes used across my sourdough recipes.
I’m keeping these linked here for continuity, so if you’re baking along with my existing content, you can easily find a comparable basket. They’re widely available and do the job well, which is why they’ve featured in my baking to date.
It’s worth noting that while I keep these links up to date, the exact products behind Amazon listings can change over time as suppliers and production runs shift. That variability is one of the reasons I’m gradually moving toward more consistently specified tools like those from Brod & Taylor.
